I was in band with my ex-wife (back when we were still together) and the funniest thing was watching all these skramz boys get all love sick every time they saw a woman singing for a band. it's funny, perhaps these guys were just so desperate to find a woman that had the same musical interests as them or something. turned out my ex hated most screamo bands anyway.

I'm not sure if this question was intended to start some sort of philosophical discourse or not...but if it was a genuine sentiment on your part, then it's a main reason why there aren't more girls participating in the scene.

We have to make spaces more inclusive. Assuming that all girls listen to bands like La Dispute and Touche Amore is creating some kind of implied hierarchy due to the fact that they don't listen to "real" screamo. Also, "real" screamo is/has been predominantly comprised of males venting emotion about being wronged by females. Rather than berate them for listening to certain bands, try and show them some other bands. Or better yet just let them listen to what they want to listen to, there isn't any need to be paternalistic about it.
