Drudkh is the only black metal band I need...and Agalloch if you would consider them BM.
Agalloch is doom/folk metal. Not a blast beat in sight.

Plugging my own band, still:

Terzij de Horde (www.myspace.com/terzijdehorde)

We've been around for a good year now, our EP is doing well blogspot-wise and we will play anywhere, anytime. We come from the hardcore/screamo scene in Holland, excepting the drummer, adn I do think you can hear that in our songs. Some inspirations are Drudkh, WITTR, Lifelover, Khanate, Neil Perry, Deathspell Omega, Taake, Panopticon and the likes. Check it out, then whine about the "hipster"factor. If it makes a difference, I have raped a nun.
A welcoming omen of beating hearts

Coldworld, WITTR, Weakling and Ashdautas are the only new BM bands worth a damn, save a few others.
i vaguely recall being alone.

A history of black metalz by Cromlech.

The band that started it all.
VENOM-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHmzFVDjVnM

Venom formed in 1979 but it wasn't until 1982 when they released the album "Black Metal" did the term first see use.

The man who perfected it.
BATHORY!!!1!-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcpGUajRXfk

Quorthon claims he never knew who Venom was when he started writing his music but....I dont buy it. Either way Quorthon basically made black metal into a real genre not just a nifty thrash counterpart he was the influence for pretty much every Norwegian and second wave of black metal bands in the 1990's like Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Burzum, ect.

Honorable mentions from the 80s
HELLHAMMER-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_dQwbsP7Sg

Then came the 90s Norwegian black metal scene. This pretty much popularized black metal and made it into the worldwide hit it is now.
I'm sure most people know the story. lol letz make muzik that sound leik Bathory. lol letz open black metalz shop for black metalz people. lol lets kill former band matez and burn down churches LOL WE SO COOL. the end.

MAYHEM-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58o17dnB6hk
BURZUM-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luFCBdS5PAs
GORGOROTH-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4M5itOuPu8(video from 04 but this concert is so fucking metal, those are real goat heads..,so metal)
DARKTHRONE-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwiRPXCtmsc
IMMORTAL-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBdAY8eA9w (Best music video ever made.)

Now there is a shitton of different Black Metal genres and sillyness.

USBM- Leviathan-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGGlXhx2u3U (Shit like Xasthur,WITTR,Twilight falls into USBM anything for the US really. it all sounds the same.)
Post-rock/Shoegaze BM- Alcest-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6hxV7PRttA

And so many other crazy sub genres and silly names.
