Keith is a super nice dude, in person and online. I'm not the biggest fan of their bands (or the fans really either..) but I can totally respect them as musicians and what not. I'm friends with the dudes in Innards, Two knights and Football, etc.; all of them rad bands and also super rad people. Gotta rep my texas bands. Overall, no issues or anything with CYLS. and I fell for snowing hard when i first heard them, still love riding my bike to their ep.
love yourself, no one else will

Football etc and Empire Empire are both amazing though i made a complete fool out of myself during the 2012 cyls sxsw showcase and both those bands probably hate me now

Keith (the dude who runs CYLS) is a super nice guy and I really like him. He stopped answering my texts and phone calls after party dawg (Wes) punched a dude at last years CYLS showcase and that makes me sad.
I like a few CYLS bands but I feel like for the most part CYLS is looking backwards rather than looking forward. I think most of the music Keith releases sounds a lot like 90s emo pop like the bands released on labels like Divot, Polyvinyl, Grand Theft Autumn and Crank!. I love alot of the stuff that was released from those labels when that sound was pushing the envelope in the 90s but I feel like trying to recreate that in 2013 just doesn't excite me. I feel like most of the bands trying to recreate that sound aren't bringing much innovation to the table.
I don't know much about the way he runs his label but I have heard complaints from bands that have worked with him about the way he does things. One of those bands has continued to work with him the other band stopped putting out releases with him. I do know he works super hard and loves what he's doing so kudos to that.

i talked to him at a show they did in atlanta and is a really nice fella. i sucked his dick off about how much i loved his band, and was extremely appreciative. plus, he is a great writer, which what makes EE stand out from the 90s stuff, IMO.

Re: COUNT YOUR LUCKY STARS
Empire Empire is probably the best thing on the label in terms of longevity and what not, so kudos to him for that. Also Brian, if that story is true then that is the most punk thing that could ever involve CYLS

Me and Party Dawg both bleed punk, so yeah it's true.grievingmass wrote:. Also Brian, if that story is true then that is the most punk thing that could ever involve CYLS
I've never read Keith's lyrics, I probably never will. 99% of the time I don't read bands lyrics because they are very peripheral to me when it comes to enjoying most music. Also even the best lyrics will not bring innovation to the sound of the music.Jakey LIAF wrote: . plus, he is a great writer, which what makes EE stand out from the 90s stuff, IMO.
