CitizenOfUlysses wrote:Warning: the second movie has another infuriating cliffhanger, but is totally worth it. Speedgrapher is pretty good, not the highest quality animation but they do good stuff with the small budget.

Production IG is great in that they try to do a lot of variety and experiment a lot, and usually they're all pretty good, but they've made some shitty stuff, like Guilty Crown and Blood-C. Fortunately, the shows come out so shitty that they come out the other end as insanely entertaining in a Code Geass-esque manner, with asspull after asspull and absolute riduculosity.

Did anybody else hear about Toonami coming back last night? I don't have cable so I wasn't able to watch any of it ;_; I don't know if anybody here was part of that era (I was on the ass end of it) but shit man, that's a lot of nostalgia.
I wish I had cable for that if it was true. Missing Game of Thrones season 2 opener tonight too. I never got into Toonami (or anime) as a kid, though I watched Dragonball a little bit.

I'm gonna have to check out Speedgrapher. I just started Samurai Champloo last night (I thought it was some newb shit, come to find out Watanabe did it, boy did I feel like an ass). I have too much awesome looking anime just sitting in my Netflix instant queue that isn't being watched.

Just thought I'd share this with anyone who's interested. New-ish manga about a schizophrenic mangaka (someone who writes/illustrates manga) surviving a zombie apocalypse. Really differently done than your average zombie tale. Very slow to get started, to the point where you don't even realize that the infection is spreading until it's out of control, and then looking back you see all the hints. If you can stick with it up to there, the payoff is very rewarding. Someone just went ahead and translated about five volumes, while before it was going at a rate of one chapter every few months, so dig in.
suicides may have been a pact

Samurai Champloo is one of my favorites because it just fuckin oozes style, if you want something else that has the same sense of suave coolness, watch Baccano! (the english dub is fucking amazing, the show is probably my favorite of all time). If you want something super skram that's on netflix, try out mushi-shi. emotional holcavst.
I watched about half of Mushi-shi and got caught up in other shit. My friend kept giving me shit because I hadn't seen Firefly (or Serenity), so for some dumb reason I stopped watching anime and started that bullshit. It's like a half assed Bebop with shitty production value.

CitizenOfUlysses wrote:WHOOOOOA THERE KID DON'T RAG ON DA FIREFLY. That shit is classic! It gets a lot better in the later episodes, and Serenity is okay, not the best but still good entertainment. I think if Firefly had the time to really get on its feet instead , the next couple seasons would have been stellar. Any kind of narrative in any media that effectively pulls off that Bebop feel, be it through oozing style or the whole wandering odd jobs schtick or the Old West atmosphere or that jazz shit, will pull me the fuck in. I love that shit. Interesting fact: there's a new show coming out that's reuniting Watanabe and Konno, the director and composer behind Cowboy Bebop respectively. It's called Sakamichi no Apollon and it's about two kids who start a jazz club. First episode is out now, seems pretty cool so far.
It's good enough to have kept me watching as long as I have, but the characters are a little shallow and there seems to be too many cliched plot elements for me to feel blown away by it. It's good, but not amazing by any means. I guess judging it for shallow characters is a little unfair considering the length of the series, but they still could have fleshed them out a bit more. Yeah, I heard about that on The Daily What or something a few months back, but then haven't heard anything else about it until now. Excited to check this out!

Sakamichi no Apollon is sooooooo good. Fight scene backed by jazz music felt sooo much like Cowboy Bebop haha. Also probably the first time I've ever seen drum playing (or any instrument playing) animated properly.

I definitely don't dig firefly, but sakamichi no apollon sounds fucking awesome. Where the hell can I watch this?

Just wanna give props to Ulysses for being so diligent in maintaining this thread. As I said before I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of anime but everything that he recommended that I've checked out has been gold.
