The place I usually buy from is going out of buiseness so I got all of the Touch HKDVDs for 20 bucks and Patlabor 2 with the original dub for 50 cents.

it really bothers me that she's supposed to be German but they don't go to any lengths to make it believable. NOT EVEN THE NAME.
but that's just me and my details...

She's supposed to be half nipponese too, which kinda makes the name make sense a little bit?

I dunno, the fucking nips don't know how to figure out foreigners whatsoever. Seriously, if somebody's from America or England they're automatically blonde and blue eyed and annoying or they're giant, silent black people with sunglasses. WAY TO NOT BE RACIST, JAPAN. WAY TO FUCKING GO.

Yeah, there were only a few nods at her being German (when she couldn't pilot EVA-02 with Shinji in the cockpit because the thought language difference), and it would have been cool to work more of that stuff in there. Eh, oh well. Not one of the focuses of the story I suppose. I wonder if there's a German sub option on the DVD. Hmm. Anybody watch the reboot OVAs (or whatever the fuck they are)? I've heard good things, but I'm extremely apprehensive because I hear it waters some of the finer complexities down, and that'd be a shame.

You talking about the Rebuild movies? Yeah, I think they're great. The first one is pretty much a recap, but the second one has a pretty different story. I don't think the first one waters down anything, and the second one deviates from the original series so you can't really water anything down anyway. Asuka and Rei have some differences from the original series, and the Rebuild puts Rei and Shinji together more than it does Shinji and Asuka; Asuka is more of a bro, and Rei has more emotions and more of an actual human being. The animation is fucking gorgeous, lots of eye candy. Also, there are a bunch of fan theories about how the Rebuild movies are actually a sequel to the original series. The title of the third rebuild movie is You Can (Not) Redo, so it seems like it could actually be true at this point, or else Anno is just trolling the shit out of all of us.

Interesting. I may just have to check those out when I get a chance. I picked up End of Evangelion on eBay for $25 and watched it last week and it continued blowing my mind like the series had just done.

Picked up Samurai 7 for $8 last week (the whole series too), anyone seen it? Just wondering if it's worth the time, I love Akira Kurosawa flicks, but I'm wondering how far it deviates from Seven Samurai (or if it deviates far if it's still good).

Whats the last line again? Cause Im pretty sure if its "You make me sick" is translated wrong and is suppose to say "I feel sick" and that wasn't even suppose to be the last line anyway it was suppose to be "I wont be killed buy a guy like you" which they couldn't get to work and the asked the voice actress what she would say in that situation and she just said "I feel sick" and they just used that.
I personally think the better ending was the original TV series ending and thought the movie kinda ruined it. The rebuild though is pretty good and I had zero expectations for it. The American girl though is extremely annoying and over the top. The manga is suppose to be the original story that the came up with first before Anno had his nervous breakdown and is written by the co-creator of the series. He hasn't finished it yet though cause hes been ridiculously slow with writing it.

The last line in Japanese is kimochiwarui, which can mean "disgusting", "I feel sick", OR "you are disgusting/make me feel sick" depending on if she's referring to public masturbator Shinji or herself or the general situation/condition of everything. I've heard the story of how the VA changed the line, and personally I think that makes the movie. Srsly a good decision on their part, it does a lot to illustrate the whole hedgehog's dilemma deal that the series keeps trying to portray.

But yeah, Mari could have been done a lot better done, she needed a lot more development. I've heard a lot about the manga, but I've never actually taken the time to go through it because of all the other good manga out there that deserves reading.

I recently watched the DVD in Japanese and the subs say "You disgust me."
