I'm in the video for the last xvpopdmx show, and yeah, there was all kinds of weird things at sass shows. That particular one had a couple of guys with tennis rackets miming lobbing tennis balls to people moshing to the metalcore bands that played earlier, and then when vpopdm played one of the singers ran a duct tape lasso around the whole crowd. You just went with it.

Alex mentioned JR Ewing. Those later JR Ewing records were pure awesome sass. So were those early These Arms Are Snakes records. The Wolfnote did this sound pretty well, too. Panthers, too, I guess. That last Orchid record. And of course The Sassprins (AZ) and The Sassprins (NJ)/Star Jones. I think I still have Dakota's mp3s of this somewhere.

Also, this is all how hipsterism grew out of hardcore.

This is blowing my mind. A lot of things are starting to make sense now. I didn't understand a lot of this when I started listening to all of this stuff back in 05-06, but damn. Can you guys please just use this thread to explain how things were back in the day? And does this stuff still go on?

After School Knife Fight were the messiahs...Jacen Beers big time screamo legend. They were pretty much the epitome of the screamo sass.

the modern day hot topic/warped tour rise records scene dude bitch looking kid....their style was/is originally the screamo sass kid. If you saw someone who looked like that back in 2002, you knew they were into real screamo 100% now they are into underoath and attack attack.
