What? That's how publishing in general has worked since long before Kickstarter was even a thing. Also why did "entitled" become that catch-all buzzword to mean "people I disagree with", this needs to stop

What I mean is - Kickstarter has given way for shitty people to get their lame ideas funded because they're too lazy to work their ass off and fund it themselves. If this was 2002 and I wanted to press a record, I wouldn't be able to just ask for money to do it - I'd have to haul ass to get that money and send the record to press. Nowadays, the idea of actually saving money in order to produce a record is an afterthought. it becomes "i want to press this on 180g in a deluxe gatefold jacket so i need to make a kickstarter for $2000"

surely it's not just me that thinks this way?!

So you are arguing that kickstarter isn't DIY? Sort of a weird thing to care so much about. Most bands can't get their record pressing funded but Funeral Diner can so why the fuck not? You seem to skip over the fact that people are willingly giving their money to these "lame ideas".
