was kind of a snob back in the day and didn't "get it" at first. same with linkin park (shameful admission used to think "one step closer" was a good song except for that part where he "screams" lol).
AOF was def my skamz gateway tho.

so many bands influenced along the way. too many to name.

major moments?
  • Melissa Ethridge/Shania Twain/Presidents of USA :P wtf i was just a kid. i stand by it even now tho.

Our Lady Peace (Naveed era)/Bush (sixteen stone was so important)

    Blink182

    Ozzy, gateway to Metallica

    Van Halen = "classic rocks"

    aof = to "skramz"+"hardcore"+"indies"

dream theater = to "prog scene"

jellyfish = to powerpop, to electro pop (metric, etc), etc.

    k-os = to hip-hop,etc (Dizzee Rascal+grime lately)

    calvin harris/daft punk/mroizo = "electronic"/pop

lady gaga = pop "shit" 8-)
over different times and each genres to their own greater fulfillment...
tried to be vague/brief about moments=to genres but still feel like i wrote too much shit

went thru my priest/maiden phase too of course. maiden still = #1 all time show (soo fucking sad i didn't get to go to my maiden+dreamtheater concert :()
and the pearljam/rhcp, etc phase... still love those bands and their live shows.

For me it was Thursday. I remember hearing Waiting when I was in 7th or 8th grade and being completely blown away by it.

Thanks to this thread I now see how we all really have almost the same influences.

Converge, I guess. The band that got me into the whole hardcore/skram clause.
literature as masturbatory paraphernalia.

the first bands i liked as a kid were the beach boys, black sabbath, and the who, all of which i still enjoy(especially the beach boys) as far as being introduced to punk rock and such, motorhead, the ramones and the new york dolls, followed shortly by the misfits, minor threat, black flag etc. the first screamo i ever got into was hot cross, then city of caterpillar and orchid shortly after(i bought COC and Orchid CDs on the same day).

When I was younger, I'd have to say that Linkin Park was probably the first band that got me into "music." Besides that, I was a huge nerd in my early teens and listened to a lot of random Japanese bands, which in turn got me into heavier music. Alexisonfire, A Static Lullaby, things of that sort got me really into what I thought was fairly "heavy" at age 14-15, then I did some research and found bands like Clikitat Ikatowi, Van Johnson, Saetia, and Circle Takes the Square. I immediately became interested and it hasn't slowed down too much ever since.
