Indie

Post by loveinathens »

Let's talk about indie rock, indie pop, twee, post-punk, post-punk revival, shoegazing, dreampop et al. Most of the skramo kids I've spoken to tend to lean towards liking more folk-y American indie stuff apart from anything that has a Kinsella in it. I wasn't one of those kids. Over that long patch of inactivity from the local punk scene, I got into shoegazing and indie pop. I was just wondering if anyone else is into stuff like 4AD, Creation or Sarah Records.

This is me, I love 4AD. Creation is one of the best labels around; most things from Teenage Filmstars to Biff Bang Pow. But I'm also really bad at talking about it.

In other words, if you haven't check this out:

Here's a video for one of theirs songs, it's not on this album:

Much like other genres, I'm a fan of indie before it meant you were a male model with a swoopy haircut and sang whiny about having your heartbroken. I'm down with a lot of Touch and Go and K Records bands. Pretty much all of Albini's stuff (Shellac most of all probably). My Bloody Valentine are classic. Jesus Lizard. Even though they're nothing alike, I also always think of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Stone Roses/Ian Brown solo stuff (kinda). Clinic is also pretty good. Low are another classic. As for more modern stuff, Pretty Girls Make Graves, A Trillion Barnacle Lapse, The Lost Kids, Slaves/Pleasure Forever, Obits, and the first two Weakerthans records (no homo). I'm also really into The Magic Wands. They're not getting much play for some reason, but they put out pretty much the best dance record of 2009.

Oh, and honestly, referencing Anti-Flag and/or referring to them as "punk" in a serious fashion is more of a bannable offense than anything else you've said.
