Re: Morals and Ethics
OK GOT THE SCOOP FROM MY NEW BANDMATE.
"ok get ready to take a dive...
i remember this show distinctly. i am pretty sure it was much earlier than 2005 (try 2003). the band is called morals and ethics BUT that throws you off if you try to research them because they were originally called set you ablaze. if memory serves, they changed their name just before this show/first show with a new name. can't remember if there was a lineup change too, but at any rate i am pretty sure it was essentially the same band. you can find lots of vague info about set you ablaze on the punkottawa board (http://www.google.ca/search?q=site%3Ap ... you+ablaze). i could probably dig up some mp3s if i polled a couple of ottawa people. morals and ethics broke up shortly after. set you ablaze was never a big ottawa band, they were always in the shadow of the more established van johnson (who toured, put out vinyl). set you ablaze always opened for like alexisonfire (remember this was 2003), hopesfall, etc. the only guy i sort of knew in the band was tom(?) the guitarist with the mesh back hat (i remember that style really well). he was the singer in a band that was all high school friends of mine called we the accused active around the same time/maybe a bit later. there are lots of my peers from my high school here in the front row and i recognize a bunch of the crowd.
now here's the really juicy part. i am pretty sure this was one of the best ottawa shows ever of the time, because there were only a couple shows around that era at this venue. it means the 2005 date was definitely wrong, since it was the summer of 03 according the some posts i just dug up on the board. it was the talk of us at my high school for awhile as being one of the better shows in recent memory. here's the line up:
Van Johnson (ottawa, probably the best set they played)
Takaru
Death From Above (this was their second ottawa show, before they were …1979 and when they were good)
Set you ablaze/Morals and Ethics
Cicada (who featured my old friend/band mate evan who were an even more underlooked and underachieving ottawa screamo band from the time)"
ENJOY.
