For anyone that plays guitar on this board: what kind of tunings have you experimented with? what kind of bands were you playing with those tunings? what has been your favorite?

I have never really experimented much with my tunings outside of just dropping everything but I am always interested when watching a band what they do. Maybe everybody just plays some variation of drop-D or standard, but hopefully there are people more creative than myself here.

So I've only played standard in punk bands in high school, C Standard in a heavy/dissonant/whatever hardcore band, and recently by myself I have just dropped everything a half-step to try and make it sound more full. I tried the last on thinking that If I were to be the only guitar played in a band it might make it sound better live. But, haven't been playing with anyone recently so I don't know if it worked.

I've mainly played in standard.

I play drop D for grindier songs, standard for more melodic stuff.

That looks pretty cool. F on one end and C on the other. Whenever I tried an open tuning everything just sounds too much like a major chord. Probably because I didn't play it long enough to learn what I liked, but this seems like you could more easily avoid that.

I drop the D string down to C and leave the rest in standard. You can make it very pretty or heavy. I know Mineral played in it a lot.

one band plays in drop D, one plays in drop D a half step down.
