Work and Stress

Post by iKichigai »

Hey fellas. I've been quite busy lately and I feel like I'm going to get burned out (summer vacay's coming soon though). I am well aware that most of the bros here are from EU and the US...So we probably have different work ethics and such, assuming that most of us here hold jobs and not basement dwellers and/or full-time students (I guess students experience stress just as much).

As you all know or if you don't know already, the Japanese work ethics is to the death. Some Japanese literally work to death. People just collapse and die on their desks, in train stations, etc. You can tell it's not a rare occurrence 'cause we even have a single word for it which is,『過労死』(Karoushi), that roughly translates as "death from overwork" in English ....(which I am so going to write about and include in our upcoming full-length btw)

I do try to balance work and play but it's kinda hard to do when you're in a workaholic environment. It's freaken contagious I'm not even kidding. Listening to music really helps though. But sometimes it just gets too overwhelming.

So just out of curiosity I wanna know how you guys relieve yourselves from work-related stress. Or like how do you deal with it (or do you even deal with it at all) without compromising the quality of your job performance (is that even possible)? What's your story?

Case in point this Japanese man died in the middle of his overtime work at 30 years old (without any signs or symptoms), leaving his wife and two little kids. Toyota refused to recognize his death from overwork so the wife sued them and made them pay for his 130-hour overtime work and damages. It sucks that it doesn't have any subtitles for you guys to understand it completely but the story is pretty chilling it still gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I watch it.

I consider my job to be pretty stressful (I work in a pharmacy and deal with the public) and for the month of May I couldn't really take working there anymore. Then I left for a while and spent a month in Thailand. Now I'm back, and all that stress is gone. So more or less, since you got summer around the corner, take a break. Getting away from your job for a bit can help you like, reset.

the best thing to do is take a second and consider the fact that you have a job. however stressful work may be, not having a job is much more stressful. every second you are working, youre racking up money.

i dont really see a reason to "over work". do as much as you need to to live the way you want.

i do freelance design so i can pretty much work when i want to and how much i want to. i generally dont even work 2 weeks out of a month but i make enough to live the very frugal lifestyle that i have become accustomed to over the years.

there are still deadlines when i am on a job but i cant really say it is all too stressful. im doing something i did for a hobby 10 years ago. like i mentioned before, what is stressful is actually getting the work. if you have a job that you just walk into every day, there should be no worries. if its not enjoyable, try to do something else.

I deal cards and dice at a local casino, but before you stop me and say "that's a fun occupation man," well, it is not. It's 8 hours of standing in front of the sorriest lot of people you'll ever see paying and taking (more often taking) their money. But as far as stress goes, I think I fare a little better than most people. It's a job where one does not take it home; at the end of the shift, it's all over and I can just forget about everything until the next day. But I think the problem though is the complete mind-numbing hell I can go through when the shift begins. Best way I've had to deal with it, as well as any kind of stress, is to just space out, keep my head somewhere else, disassociate.

Not the best thing to do, ha, but idk.
