as a big mnwa fan, i was sort of disappointed. idk why exactly. i just wasn't feeling the album.

i've been listening to recollections by nayru for about a week and a half now, and i'm really digging that. the first time i listened avari's structures/agony ep i didn't like it at all. now it is one of my favorite releases of all time.
a local band called great reversals released their record a few months back, and it's amazing. their upcoming album will probably be even heavier and more emotional.
another great local release was from sunlight ascending, who are one of the best post rock bands in my opinion. and that's really an unbiased opinion.
weekend nachos has also released some cool stuff this year.

i haven't really heard any screamo bands lately that have caught my attention. i definitely need to seek them out.
glad you like recollections man. here's the link if anyone wants to check it out: nayru.bandcamp.com

we're recording a split with the band that was formed out of avari, merryl streaker, in december. gotta agree, didn't care for structures when i first heard it, but it grew on me and I think it's fucking amazing

I heard it was REALLY good. wish i went. i also heard that there were a few tickets still for sale at the door (but only like 10 of them) and that they were probably already reserved.

The stuff I really liked this year was stuff that my friends put out (because that's all I ever really get to listen to anyways). I think probably my top 7" this year is a 4-way split by some of my closest friends ever. Love them to death:

Kevin Greenspon + Reighnbeau + Light Light + Torn Humorist

The Kevin Greenspon + Former Selves LP is bad ass as well.

I.E. - Most Importantlly fucking rules

clipping. - midcity is rad as fuck (even better live, so loud and punishing!!)

the for want of lp, the lord snow lp, and the gas up yr hearse split with coma all get regular play as well.

I've been enjoying weird black metal such as Botanist, Palace of Worms and Loss of Self.

Bump.

After Forever/Khmer split LP makes my list.

Not sure how many copies are making it to North America aside from those. If you like that trendy neocrust junk done really well and good Japanese screamo then this is for you.
