Your 2013 Favorites (Non-screamo welcome)

Post by Phil »

I got bored so I though we'd do one of these stupid things again.

I have listened to significantly less screamo this year than any of the last 5 years. I probably missed some good stuff, but I haven't had the patience to dig through wave inspired crap. This is my list so far.

Capacities: There is no Neutral 10"
For Want Of: Smoke 10"
Lord Snow: Solitude LP
Black Everest/Captain, Your Ships is Sinking: Split LP
Afterlife Kids: The LP with the really German name
Delos: LP
Old Soul: Tidal Lock
Grinding Halt/Daighila: Split 7"
Grinding Halt/Brito: Split LP
Arse Moreira: Discography cassette
Svffer: 7"
Soma Nowaja: Warten Auf Klio LP

Other good stuff came from Eros+Massacre (repress the tapes! I didn't get one), Adobe Homes, Coma Regalia, Gas Up Yr Hearse!, Osawtomie, Ice Hockey, Kilgore Trout, Locktender, Yusuke, Kaddish and Totem Skin.

Still haven't listened to the MNWA or No Tongue 7"s. Did those Watcher/Mahria splits ever come out? Those should be good. That Black Everest/Captain Your Ship is Sinking split turned out a lot better than I expected. I didn't really like either of their earlier releases, but it's really, really good. Highly recommended.

Delos had the LP of the year (imo).

as a big mnwa fan, i was sort of disappointed. idk why exactly. i just wasn't feeling the album.

i've been listening to recollections by nayru for about a week and a half now, and i'm really digging that. the first time i listened avari's structures/agony ep i didn't like it at all. now it is one of my favorite releases of all time.
a local band called great reversals released their record a few months back, and it's amazing. their upcoming album will probably be even heavier and more emotional.
another great local release was from sunlight ascending, who are one of the best post rock bands in my opinion. and that's really an unbiased opinion.
weekend nachos has also released some cool stuff this year.

i haven't really heard any screamo bands lately that have caught my attention. i definitely need to seek them out.

I cannot stress enough how amazing the new lord snow lp is. One of the best jams I've heard in years. Also Capacities killed it with their new release as well. I was extremely lucky this year and got to see mahria like 8 times in a row, best band.

Totally agree on new Lord Snow. I was really impressed from the get-go when I listened to it.
