Tips for making shirts?

Lately I've been interested in making some silk-screened shirts for some bands i dig, and i was wondering if any of you have any tips on making them. I already have the materials for the screen itself, and i have some blank shirts and fabric paint from the art store. I was planning on getting some photo emulsion and transparency sheets (for the designs) but im not sure where to get them, and the last time i checked my art store they didn't had either. ALSO i don't plan on making any profits of these shirts, im just making them for me and (maybe) for my friends
