Who do you guys think started Skramz?
Not the term (All hail Bigmin) But the sound.
Have we discussed who we think is the first skramz band?
I wanna say Honeywell with that live on KSPC in '92.
Reach Out had their S/T in 1992 aswell.
Portraits of Past was 1993. Definitely first Kittencore band.
How early were Weep? I can't find a year for them other than early 90's.
What are your thoughts?

This is a tuffy. We need some serious OG cats in here to lay down some knowledge. This would be a good question for VLV, but I'm pretty sure nobody on there wants to admit they ever like this style of hardcore lol

Really good question. In my opinion I always thought Heroine kind of started up the hardcore skramz jams. They've been around since 88, 89.Also the band The Hated but I always consider them more punk because they have that old school punk style and they've been around since 85.I love Reach Out.I love the s/t cover with the kids holding the tennis rackets.Don't forget the band Mohinder.
Re: THE GENERAL CONSENSUS OF WHO STARTED IT
actual skramz id prob say portaits of past...all the other stuff was just emotive hardcore
Re: THE GENERAL CONSENSUS OF WHO STARTED IT
well, i always thought that honeywell and those early bands were "protoskram" kind of like how question mark and the mysterians are "protopunk."
i agree with bigman about portraits. formed in i think 94 (?) and they pretty much set the bar for skram as far as i can tell

Re: THE GENERAL CONSENSUS OF WHO STARTED IT
i'm about honeywell cuz of the fact that they're from a few miles from where i live.
in my mind's timeline of this stuff, screamo and emo have almost always existed at the same time aside for a few years when it was just emo bands doing their thing- rites of spring, the hated, etc. i mean the early ninties are filled with a ton of creative ultra screamy hardcore stuffs - honeywell, mohinder, reach out, ten boy summer, san diego, etc.
also i guest dj'ed at kspc once. lots of sick/rare emo there. was trying to fight my idle hands.

I'll 3rd honeywell. I can get behind POP and heroin too. I never really hear any scene veterans talk about reach out or hold them in high regard, so that one is a mystery to me.

Good question! I'm totally not familiar with any bands outside the USA that were killing it early on.

PoP. 2 votes for PoP by skramiez legends. I think that seals the deal.
