Just me, I guess. I'm used to kids mislabeling it that, but for Hot Topic to have a main category for it on their website's front page is a bit much. Not to mention unprofessional. Most kids who call that shit "Screamo" don't even think it's an actual genre.
You'd think SOMEONE at Hot Topic would know enough about music to just keep
really broad Punk and Metal categories.

This is the exact reason "skram" is used now. not just because we are all too cool to say screamo but because that already ludicrous word got changed into something else by popular culture. it has been like this pretty much since guitar world had that big section on "screamo" bands. that was a long assed time ago when i was still doing cmhwak.
i still prefer kitten violence because that is just too crazy for anyone in some kind of mainstream media to take and use.
