also dare i say it but can we establish some guidelines about what this word "screamo" actually means? screamo: there are twinkly parts and whiny vocals, soft/loud dynamics, arpeggios and clean guitar parts usually. orchid and one-eyed god prophecy are hardcore, not screamo. screamy, melodic and emotive hardcore yes but also relentlessly heavy, loud and generally fast in a way that puts them outside the emo category for me - there are no 'emo' parts in these bands except for a few quiet parts which are too few and far between to put them outside the purview of hardcore in my opinion. just listen to early orchid records, they were playing straight up HARD FUCKING CORE. one-eyed god prophecy is like stoner crust with screamo influences. both bands are amazing but this word gets tossed around way too loosely.

I used to make these distinctions, but it falls on deaf ears. Yeah, Orchid was much more of a "hardcore" band of the time than a "screamo" one. I'd also put Reversal of Man and Usurp Synapse into this category as well. You can't even say it's a fanbase thing. I mean, no one ever says Jihad was a screamo band despite the fact that was a big audience for them.

Bottom line, us very few care.
