YES SENSEI "IN EXCELSIS" CD OUT NOW
Just in time for the band's final show this Saturday, YES SENSEI's fourth and final album "In Excelsis" is here! The CD costs $6 PPD in the United States, $9 PPD in Canada and $10 everywhere else. The album's opening track "Crystal Billy" has been added to the Rok Lok Radio Player. You can also listen to a full stream on Bandcamp here:

It is true. After ten long years- three full length albums, a 7 inch, compilation appearances, tours and hundreds of shows Long Island post punk band YES SENSEI is calling it a day but not before they send everyone with a fourth and final album. It sounds cliche but this is easily YES SENSEI's most realized work. The trademark noisy off kilter guitar work and grooving percussion and bass is still there but mixed in with a complexity never before seen in the band's discography. The band's sonic repertoire has expanded with mixing together the influences of Sonic Youth, Unwound, Polvo and The Minutemen as well as Glenn Branca and The Ex. YES SENSEI is able to create jarring, abrasive sounds that still retain a strong melodic sense.

The previous three YES SENSEI cds ("What I Do Best is What I Do Worst", "We Who Transplant Sustain" and "s/t" are all still available at the same price. There is a bundle pack containing all four cds, a t-shirt and pin for $15 PPD in the US, $18 in Canada and $19 elsewhere. To order go to the releases section and scroll to the bottom. You'll see pics of t-shirts as well. I'll get more detailed pictures up here in the next day or so.

DUDE JAPAN "TEENAGE SUMMER EP" 7 INCH LATHE ALMOST GONE!
There are less than 20 copies remaining of the DUDE JAPAN "Teenage Summer EP" 7 inch lathe. Thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy and expressed positive words about the record. It was the first lathe cut record on Rok Lok but by no means the last. Expect at least six (possibly more) new lathe cut releases this year. Stream DUDE JAPAN "TEENAGE SUMMER EP" here :

ON DECK...
In a few short weeks ordering info will go up for the DEEP POCKETS cassette, STARS ARE INSANE "A Plan...A Perfect Disaster" cd-r, and DUDE JAPAN "The Things That Matter..." cd/cassette. Also an exact (for real) date when the SANDY CITY "Surfin' WA" one sided 12 inch will be ready for order.

DISTRO UPDATE:

I'll have a another large distro update coming soon but this this time around I want to make some recommendtions which I haven't done in awhile so here we go...

-Apollo Program/Short Supply "split" cd (A sweet split between to great European labels. The Apollo Program play emotional punk in the vein of Amanda Woodward while Short Supply play emo hardcore the meshes together the influences of Yaphet Kotto and Hot Water Music.)

-Brass, The "Homosapien" 7 inch (Loud and driving, passionate post punk that reminds me of a mix between Unwound, Kerosene 454, Heroin, and Drive Like Jehu. Ex members of On the Might of Princes, The Exelar, Splurge and Latterman)

-Brick Mower "Floors ep" cassette (Powerful and buzzing melodic indie rock/pop that reminds me a lot of bands like Superchunk, Small, New Sweet Breath, Fluf, etc. The "Floors ep" is a C-28 tape and it is dubbed on both sides of the tape for minimal rewinding. Seriously, NJ's Brick Mower are one of the finest bands to hit my ear drums in quite sometime.)

-Charlie Mcalister "Mes Motifs Sont Fous" 10 inch (The one, the only-Charlie Mcalister. A bizarre, unique pastiche of lo-fi folk and field recordings that really defies classification. There truly is no one like Charlie Mcalister)

-Coloracao Desbotada "Sinfo Noise Clube EP" cd-r (Another slice of brilliant lo fi indie pop/rock from the Transfusao Noise Records! This time from the absolutely wonderful Coloracao Desbotada and their "Sinfo Noise Clube EP" which meshes together early Pavement, Eric's Trip and "Sometimes Chimes" era Further. Just incredible stuff. Additionally do yourself a favor and get their latest on Pug Records, "Eu, eu mesmo e os varios beijos cafeinados"- it has been a on constant rotation for me lately.)

-Edith Presler "Drag" 7 inch (Classic 90s lo fi bedroom indie pop whom had releases on Catsup Plate, Cactus Gum, etc. Five songs of disjointed yet tuneful indie rock in the vein of early Pavement, Silver Jews and Guided By Voices.)

-Iron Chic "Shitty Rambo" 7 inch (Awesome new 7 inch from LI's indie/punk rock powerhouse. Featuring ex-members of Latterman, Small Arms Dealer, Explosivo, and Jonesin'. For fans of Superchunk and all of their previous bands. These copies are from the second pressing.)

-June Paik "s/t" cd (An absolutely breathtaking release of chaotic screamo that is akin to Reversal of Man but mixed with the more introspective styles of the genre like Raein or La Quiete. Beautiful handscreened triple fold packaging. Highly recommended.)

-Madeline "White Flag" cassette ("Here we have the third full length album entitled 'White Flag' from Athens, GA native, Madeline Adams, known by most as simply 'Madeline'. Her songs are hauntingly beautiful with personal lyrics and a stunning voice. 'White Flag' is the culmination of three years of hard work from Madeline while she enlisted many of her fellow Athens-based musicians including members of the Elephant 6 Collective. The CD version of the album is available from Orange Twin Records. )

-Moon Socket "It's the End of the Trip" 7 inch (Chris from Eric's Trip playing lo fi acoustic bedroom indie/folk. If you dig the acoustic tunes of Eric's Trip records then you'll love this record. On white vinyl.)

-Only Ghost in Town, The "The Summer Was Over Before It Began" cd-r (The Only Ghost in Town plays super infectious lo fi indie pop/shoegaze that is in the vein of bands like Further, The Summer Hits, Drop Nineteens, Veronica Lake and Jesus & Mary Chain. Short bursts of fuzzed out pop tunes that begs multiple replays. This self released cd-r version features 3 exclusive tracks not available on the cassette version on Rok Lok Records.)

-Ox Scapula "Hands Out" 12 inch (Discordant, noisy post punk/math rock for fans of Polvo, Slint, Hoover, etc. An outstanding release and I can not wait to hear more.)

-Premise Beach "At Promise Beach" cd (Excellent lo fi indie pop rock. For fans of stuff like Tiger Trap, Cub or Go Team. )

-Sandy City "Nice Hat" 7 inch (This one felt like a long time coming! Following up their awesome tape on Fox Pop, "Surfin' WA" (which will be soon getting the vinyl treatment from Rok Lok) Sandy City are back at it again with three awesome new tunes on this 7 inch. Lo fi indie surf punk for fans of Cause Co-Motion, Eric's Trip, The Beach Boys, and early Tullycraft/Crayon. Awesome!)

-Sloane Peterson "Second Chances" 7 inch (Catchy indie punk stuff in the vein of Superchunk, Lemuria, the Ergs and even early Weezer.)

-This Time We Will Not Promise and Forgive "s/t" cd (If you are familiar with their recent 7 inch on Flower of Carnage then you'll be delighted to know that This Time We Will Not Promise and Forgive continue to unleash gut wrenching Ebullition styled emo/hardcore. For fans of Yage, Yaphet Kotto, etc. Features members of Killie.)

-Tugboat: 3001 ad "First Tell Me Your Name" 7 inch (Darren Rademaker from Further, and The Tyde plays fuzzed out lo fi indie rock. There is an early version of a Further song called "The Fakers & The Takers" as well as an awesome tribute song to John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats called "I Was Almost a Mountain Goats Song". Awesome record.)

-Uma Nova Orquidea Em Meu Jardim Alucinogeno "Conjunto Nova Esperanca EP" cd-r (Sun baked lo fi fuzz pop that is a cross between The Summer Hits and early Beulah. The songs on this recording were recorded at different times and in different locations which just adds to the charm. Another gem from the excellent Transfusao Noise Records)

-Wax Phantom "Don't Fool With a Phantom" cd-r (WAX PHANTOM is a 4 piece punk rock band from Long Island, NY. Take 3/5 Iron Chic, 2 pts. Small Arms Dealer, 2 pts. Jonesin', chill, mix and you got the Phantom. New 6 song demo of aggressive, dark, poppy & melodic punk rock. This demo was recorded completely live in the Dead Broke HQ Kitchen. Pressed Cassette Tape coming soon!)

-We Leave at Dawn "s/t" 7 inch (Awesome jangly and heartfelt Twelve Hour Turn esque post punk from the UK. Great hand made packaging. Members of Kids Return, Marshall Teller, structures, Halftime Parade, etc)
