Too simplified...
And you haven't answered my question...but if you take that form of categorization, you can always just name like 3-4 bands with "unique" sound, regardles of genre/country/whatever.

Ideas worth exploring.ryanatwood wrote:I don't think I could name 10 good euroskreemo bands off the top of my head. The EU seemed to swing between chaotic average skreemo (think A Fine Boat...) and more melodic stuff a la Raein. There wasn't too much middle ground as far as I can see. La Quiete excited everyone when they kicked off. Amanda Woodward might be the only truly original euroskreemo band. My pick of the bunch would be Shikari, but I dunno if they really count as 'screamo'... more lumped together with the music scene.
I know I'm being pretty neg but check it: list different skreemo 'sounds' that are far enough apart to count as individual sounds (in the same way my a fine boat/raein boundaries work). I'd be surprised if it came out with any more than those two. Please can we not talk about 'post rock screamo' though, its a waste of time.

Re: French Screamo Appreesh
After listening to what xmoonxhowlerx and mulder said, i sort got this:
French/Italian= More melodic, more melodious singing
German=Chaotic
And yes, no two bands from the same demarcation sound that unique from each other, although bands from certain countries do sound differently from bands from other countries. for example scandinavian bands (lol kvlt) do sound quite different from west euro bands, though not too much. i also noticed that bands from countries not really known as big skram producers tend to sound more like earlt 2000s/late 90s American skram.
Just my observations. I was really sucked into this issue.

Take German skramz for example. Yes, you have Danse Macabre which is known for being chaotic, but on the other hand you have Dancing on Debris and Escapado which are more melodic. Similar to French, you have early Daitro which tends to be more chaotic and later which is more melodic, but with a darker atmosphere. Not to mention Mihai Edrisch which is quite dark, chaotic and smashing and on the other hand you have Belle Epoque and the newer band Theme of Laura which are extremely melodic and mellow.
I hate it when people try to categorize something, but they know 3,5 bands. ryanatwood obvious fail there.

Hmm, good point.Haven't listened to early Daitro in a while. Don't really find Mihai that dark though...
Anyways, guess I'll have to do some blog/screamoisdead hoarding. This topic is taking my attention away from my research paper.

Mihai Edrisch is in my top 3 bands, took a bit time to "study" their tunes. Don't know which album you listened to more, but "L' Un Sans L' Autre" is generally quite darker then their other album.
Check my blog if you are into deeper analysis of tunes:)

The geographical approach doesn't really stand up well. I don't understand why you don't agree with the categories I made though... u mad?xmoonxhowlerx wrote:Not quite...forzamadrid wrote:After listening to what xmoonxhowlerx and mulder said, i sort got this:
