Re: Legit question to people in bands that write their lyric
Personally, I try to stay away from politics and social issues when I write lyrics. I feel as though using music to push any sort of political or social agenda is something I don't personally want to take part in, although I do enjoy bands and music that push all different agendas. That being said I have written one song about religion (who hasn't, amirite?) and one about tough guy hardcore, both with no intention of it coming out that way initially. Usually I just write down bits and pieces and put them together into little stories or whatever.
I've always found Guy Picciotto's lyrics to be pretty inspiring when I write. He has a way of skirting around the things he's talking about without being too ambiguous. I also like reading poetry when I'm looking for inspiration, usually Ginsberg or E.E. Cummings (or maybe a little T.S. Eliot). Just gotta experiment and figure out what works for you.

all the hip kids wail in the cold, making out to the dying sounds of this
town's dying soul
put on your punk belt and rock it for all the square cools
out of touch but within reach this is not where you'll always be
someone somewhere will always sing the words you need

same, but when i write about what makes me sad or pissed off, and i trace that line to the root of the problem, it usually leads me to politics and society.phantomlimb wrote:Personally, I try to stay away from politics and social issues when I write lyrics.

if you can't write then you should probably just stop trying to write. Wait until something actually happens to you, wait till you actually feel passionate about something.seansucks wrote:What's wrong saalt? Thread not to your liking?saalt wrote:Lol at this thread and op.
