not read through the whole thread but, according to the drummer, it's not. i was talking to him and he said that the whole joke thing was just a thing his brother (the main dood) used as like a...i don't know, self defense mechanism, like if anyone said they suck he could just be like nahh man we're only kidding about. god knows.

this is true. nothing about IHM was a joke. that would ruin it. they did play a lot of shows that ended up having tough guy militant straight edge bullshit bands on the bill, and so they got a bit of funny looks... didn't help that Jim used to provoke them either... so, how to get out of this? "we're joking, lulz", taking a further stab at the fuckers. (most of this is out there in interviews. I've also chatted to Jon a few times.)

just actually listened to touche amore there, never bothered due to the amount of idiots i know that swear by them. all i can say is that they are boring, in my opinion.

His voice can be annoying, but ...To The Beat of A Dead Horse is a solid album. The new one is a bit quiet, honestly, but still good.
My only gripe with their first album is how it sounds on vinyl. It is horrendous, and not on purpose. It's just a poor pressing. I have the letterpress edition, so maybe the black pressings sound better.

Touche Amore are a thought provoking, passionate hardcore/punk band from Los Angeles, California.

From the first strikes of their angular yet melodic chords, it's apparent that Touche Amore have awoken something long forgotten in the hardcore/punk genre. Bringing to mind the balance of rage and melody that "Revolution Summer" era DC bands Rites of Spring and Ignition once carried. Within each song they build an awe inspiring musical tension while impassioned vocalist Jeremy Bolm's shouts resonate, ripe with intellectual introspection. This collective outpouring of traditional hardcore anger and emotional hardcore openness ultimately coalesces into something beautiful, vulnerable, and refreshingly real.

Shortly after their formation in late 2007, Touché Amoré released their demo 7"EP on the No Sleep label. After touring the West Coast in support of that release, they recorded their debut album "...To the Beat of a Dead Horse" in early 2009. The album was co-released by the 6131 and Collect (Geoff from Thursday's vinyl only imprint) record labels, and was praised by kids and press worldwide as one of the best releases of the year. Soon after, they hit the road with a wide variety of bands including Converge, Coalesce, Thursday, Envy, and more. On the heels of these travels, Touché Amoré even managed to release a number of EPs, including splits with friends La Dispute and Make Do And Mend.

this is an excerpt from an e-mail I got from their booking company. I don't know why. all I know is that THE WAVE is hilarious. a quote from Dan is in order,

I don't think I really needed to talk about why I dislike this band since it has been discussed to death. Most of you babies can't remember anything between feeding from your mothers' breasts, though. Here's the deal: I heard a lot of people who don't have any interest in emo or "screamo" or whatever hyping this band. I went to one of their shows. It was incredibly boring. Boring sound, dude talking about how his friends are awesome, more boring music. Next I started seeing those pandering advertisements for the record and all the hype-- something about really intelligent and introspective lyrics. First it was a question of "what makes people so excited about this band?" The music is extremely generic. The lyrics are terrible. It's funny when Kim Jong Il sings about being ronery, but a man passionately sings about staying in on a Friday night is just really sad. That's right. Not a child, but a man. And I think this defines most of THE WAVE: infantilization of hardcore. People passionately performing and listening to songs that can be best described as the output of bored suburbanites who have to sit-out a weekend because they were grounded for eating too many cookies or their parents finding porn on the computer.

It's not just Touche Amore, but La Dispute and Defeater and the rest of their peers are just easy targets. It's a sad state of affairs when hardcore is only passionate about being passionate instead of actually saying or doing anything interesting-- especially with bands that are devoted to getting people to pay attention. I just see a lot of really empty catch-phrases. Not only THE WAVE, but crap like "THIS IS HARDCORE." This isn't any different than taking offense to the ridiculousness of ATTACK ATTACK, the Millionaires, Design the Skyline. It's exactly the same content with a subdued form. I don't care if these dudes in all this Wave stuff are the nicest in the word. I don't care if they are "killing it" everytime they play. I mean, Nickleback concerts are probably filled with girls flashing their breasts and full-on sex orgies, but that is irrelevant. These bands are playing for children. It might as well be called Disneycore and featured on Glee.
