with everything included? how do you manage that? shipping from Norway to USA is approx. £3. if you now add buying envelopes and other packaging material, the CD-Rs themselves,160g paper with high quality print, PayPal fees, etc - you'll get over £4 worth of expenses.

my point was not to say you're lying or anything in that direction at all, but that researching and diy-ing can save you a lot... and somewhat that i can't understand why you would ever think cd-r's are cheaper.. cost-effectiveness is exactly the reason for cd-r > cd.

Re: buy my label's first release! [The Pine]
save me a lot how? there are no cheaper CD-Rs with clear surfaces available to me. shipping costs what shipping costs. PayPal fees are PayPal fees. I won't get any cheaper deals on printing in this city either. feel free to enlighten me as to how I can «save a lot» by «researching and diy-ing», because I really honestly don't know what you are talking about here.
no one has ever said that CD-Rs are cheaper. if you read a few pages back or so, you'll actually see me pointing out that CD-Rs are more expensive than CDs.
also are you saying that £4 is expensive for a CD? over here £4 covers two packs of milk. or a (really small) cheese. or a bread (maybe two really cheap ones). the price of £4 results in me earning a little cash on domestic shipping (I'm assuming approximately no one from Norway will order though...), and lose some when shipping to the US. I also give out free copies if anyone would show up on my doorstep asking for one. £4 per record is hardly making me rich...

hey, would you relax man? i'm trying to be a little supportive here, not critizing you.alexander wrote:are you saying that £4 is expensive for a CD?
i just did. they are way cheaper. making cd's would require that you pay for setup charges, mastering, production of glass masters. etc etc etc.alexander wrote:no one has ever said that CD-Rs are cheaper.
nierle.de eg. sells cd-r's "clearface" for .13$ - its really worth it spending some hours looking for the best resellers.alexander wrote: feel free to enlighten me as to how I can «save a lot» by «researching and diy-ing», because I really honestly don't know what you are talking about here.

it was just a question. but I can see how that could be interpreted aggressive. (but that's communicating without seeing each other for you, heh.) I assure it was not intended that way though. I was just genuinely curious. :-)Josefine wrote:hey, would you relax man? i'm trying to be a little supportive here, not critizing you.
cd duplication is far cheaper and more time-effective than doing CD-Rs. you don't need mastering and blah. if you do that yourself you can just pay for CD duplication, which is way cheaper than CD-Rs.Josefine wrote:i just did. they are way cheaper. making cd's would require that you pay for setup charges, mastering, production of glass masters. etc etc etc.
I live in Norway. anything worth more than £18-ish will cost me an extra 25% of the overall value, plus a £8-ish fee. and shipping comes in addition to all this, of course. that will make those a lot more expensive than the ones I buy. they cost £0.37 per CD-R - shipping included.Josefine wrote:nierle.de eg. sells cd-r's "clearface" for .13$ - its really worth it spending some hours looking for the best resellers.
Re: buy my label's first release! [The Pine]
you still need to pay for setup fees and the glassmaster (of which is cannot be made without) - not to mention that you have to buy in larger quantities.alexander wrote:cd duplication is far cheaper and more time-effective than doing CD-Rs. you don't need mastering and blah. if you do that yourself you can just pay for CD duplication, which is way cheaper than CD-Rs.
afaik nierle will add tax themselves, saving you the toll expenses. i bought from there multiple times without toll - which they do a good job of in denmark, adding about 50-100$ of each and every order. (the toll office that is)alexander wrote: I live in Norway. anything worth more than £18-ish will cost me an extra 25% of the overall value, plus a £8-ish fee. and shipping comes in addition to all this, of course. that will make those a lot more expensive than the ones I buy. they cost £0.37 per CD-R - shipping included.

obviously we are talking larger quantities, yes. for 50x, CD-Rs are probably cheaper.Josefine wrote:you still need to pay for setup fees and the glassmaster (of which is cannot be made without) - not to mention that you have to buy in larger quantities.
taxes and customs are not the same thing. Norwegian customs look through everything that isn't a non-suspicious gift, a book, or worth less than ~£18. thus I will have to add 25% plus a fee of ~£9 to each order.Josefine wrote:afaik nierle will add tax themselves, saving you the toll expenses. i bought from there multiple times without toll - which they do a good job of in denmark, adding about 50-100$ of each and every order.
