Simple - Whatcha reading?

for those who haven't read/heard of the book... it's basically a book compiled from some zine that ten copies were made of that spread like wildfire about some xvx kid who decides to go freegan (dumpster diving, stealing, squatting, ect) rather than follow the "normal" American life and go to college and get a job, ect. I was obviously REALLY skeptical about the book, assuming it to be nothing but a pretentious self tribute to being a holier than thou "ex-worker" but it's actually pretty good. I read most of it on a hospital floor the other night, but re-reading it I'm beginning to like it more and more. It helps that it's fictional.

If you wanna read it, it's published from crimethinc., so you can get it cheap from them or just dl it. They have it in pdf(?) form for free

this thread is relevant to my interests, i dont read much but i would like to start. the last book i read was justin pearsons autobiography, it was pretty cool, not sure if he made up the part where he said he smoked weed with slayer at the age of 12

Such a great book and I definitely agree with your description. I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but thinking back to when I read it, that's very suiting. I've been meaning to read more of Delillo's work, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Just finished this not long ago. Great book, fantastic humor. Some parts made me laugh out loud by myself, which is something that rarely happens, even more so from a book.

And I know I'm really late in the game on this one...



Glad I finally got around to reading this through and through. I'm almost finished with it and though I wasn't as immediately grasped as I had hoped in the first bit, everything after about 1/3 of the way through has greatly made up for it by being intense, clever, and gripping.

I think with Orwell, it's more his concepts that are brilliant than his style. I actually find his style to be kind of boring.



Reading this right now. Probably one of the weirdest novels I've ever read, but it's brilliant. The extent to which he bashes Dostoevsky is hilarious.

I've been trying to finish House of Leaves for 2 or 3 years. I'm thinking about starting it over again and only read that. I have that bad habit to read too many books at the same time.

My main read is Diderot's Jacques le fataliste et son maître. I read it when I was 15, didn't really get what it was about, I was too young I guess. I forgot how amazing Diderot was. I love his style.


And I should finish Laclos' Les liaisons dangereuses soon.
