Re: Punk/Emo band Hospice
Once upon a time there were these people that ruined screamo and emo music for the rest of the kids that didn't get a chance to grow up with it but love it all the same. Because they were trying to perpetuate the early 2000's on the internet. Unfortunately it is 2011. The end.

Re: Punk/Emo band Hospice
what the hell are you even talking about? perpetuate the early 2000s? people are giving you shit because you're a jackass, not because you didn't grow up with screamo

i actually agree with what you're saying...brianutatx wrote: It seems unnecessary to label or classify any type of music when it becomes as subjective as you would like to make it, labeling music as being a part of a genre is only a tool that music fans use to help talk about music.
I can understand that to someone who doesn't really listen to hardcore or screamo or heavy music in general it might be easy to confuse my band Chest Pain as a screamo band. However it seems to me if some one were to go out of there way to create a new genre like post-screamo, they must have some knowledge of screamo first and would easily recognize that Chest Pain doesn't sound like most screamo bands.
I don't think it's necessarily about elitism when telling someone "Korn isn't a screamo band and heres why...", alot of times it has to do with trying to help people become better at expressing what a band sounds like. Rather than always stating what elements comprise a bands sound they can use a simple label that is somewhat agreed upon by those who are in the know. Obviously there are some bands that are a bit more vague than others. language can be something that people hold close to themselves because we use language to identify the world around us and to identify who we are, with out language to do this understanding the world and even yourself becomes a bit more difficult. Understanding vocabulary and classifications isn't necessary for us to live our lives, but it's alot easier to say "I like ice cream" than "I like frozen, creamy, dairy products with sugar in them".
i think the point i was trying to make is what you said, things get diluted and become confused... people get it wrong...
coming into a sub-genre of bands, it's not always easy to know the ins and outs of how the labels work... and sometimes people get elitist about that knowledge, or at least in the way they approach it isn't always as diplomatic or educational as "korn isn't screamo here's why"... more like "LOL WTF? n00b abortion. go die idiot ur fucked" ... no?

what you said about labels "somwhat agreed upon by those who are in the know"... can be riddled with problems for mainstreamers who might want to make inroads to some legit cool music; vague-ish sometimes genre labelers, and those in the know aren't always that open to people coming in and taking away their cool music to become accessible, they put in the time and have the history to be up on things in this world, understandably that comes with a certain priviledge?
i'm stuck on vague terms, i kind of throw my hands up and just admit i don't always get it...
hospice dude, said some dumb shit, kid hasn't got the humilty, though he apologized (learning), but needs to stfu altogether now and get a new band name and pretend they're someone else because they're def a joke now in this internet scene...

If they are actually good I wont care about the members lack of internet etiquette, but the "teaser" isnt exactly making me want more.buckytoole wrote:i actually agree with what you're saying...brianutatx wrote: It seems unnecessary to label or classify any type of music when it becomes as subjective as you would like to make it, labeling music as being a part of a genre is only a tool that music fans use to help talk about music.

Re: Punk/Emo band Hospice
listened, and not a fan...then again i'd just listened to phil collins beforehand, and since that couldn't be comparable with a musical version of the best blowjob ever received, may have tarnished my opinion some.

Re: Punk/Emo band Hospice
No, everyone, Circle Takes The Square was not the band that bridged scene kid attitude and skramz. It was Hospice.
What made you think it was a good idea to come on here and fight with the community? Your first (well, um, one of your first) mistakes was to post on VLV. A lot of members on CMHWAK are also posters on VLV and that forum is known to be especially brutal (I myself don't even like it). But, no one, NO ONE has ever had the problems you encountered. That's because we all joined VLV to talk with people with the same interests as us. If we're in bands and they came up, then they did. You came on VLV with one intention: getting your band hyped up. Then, to come on CMHWAK and do the same thing? Listen, it isn't just VLV. They didn't hate you because they're douche bags and that's how they get their dicks wet. They hated you because of the stupid shit you said, the namedropping, the term "post-skramz," for fucking arguing. And, CMHWAK will hate you for the same reason. Anywhere will, except maybe Absolute Punk. Go for it, they're all yours.
See what you did wrong? People know your type. You're not fooling anyone into thinking your band is good by dropping "skramz" band names. One thing you'll hopefully learn is that namedropping is one of the lamest things you can do. Also continuously justifying yourself and your band. If someone doesn't like my band, that's fine. But I don't say, "okay, it's not for you," and especially not "what are your top five?" We all saw where you were going with the latter, and I was kind of anticipating Pete's response. Deal with it, not everyone's going to like your band. But, I can promise you that no one will like your band if you act the way you did.
Your buddy Colby is a straight up bad person. You're just immature and egocentric. But, you're now seen as a package deal; the dumbass who came into the screamo community thinking he could survive based on what he read on Last.fm and WikiPedia, and the homophobic prick. The guys from Hospice. That's two members of your band that a good percentage of the skramz community saw, and we have so many reasons to hate you two for. Good luck, bro.
I'm 18, I'm in high school, I play in a screamo band and a power violence band. I was listening to Linkin Park when Orchid passed through Wisconsin. But that's not the point. I know what kind of music I like, and I don't need to prove that to anyone or try to fit in. I'm happy Bigman showed me this website, because I found a lot of people that have similar interests as me. Music isn't the focus of this site or this community. It's the fact that we all have something in common. I've met some great people on this site, a few of which I've been able to play shows and hang out with. They like my music (or just don't fucking thrash on it) because I didn't post a fucking teaser EP for them to listen to. I did things the old fashion way: played a fucking show.
Not even God can save you from Viva La Vinyl.
Grow up.
