So wait, let me get this straight, just because I've never seen one irl. Do you drop the needle on the outside and let it move in with the grooves for one band, and start from the middle and it moves toward the outside for the other?

You drop it in the middle for both. It depends on where you drop it.

I don't have a picture of the test on its own, but it's all the way to the right of the 7"s in this picture:


It's just a standard black test press with a couple inches of empty space at the edge. Nothing special at all (except, you know, there are only a few of them floating around).

Bid on one of them on eBay yesterday. Put max bid of $40, and it sold for $31 BUT my highest bid didnt register or something because i didnt win it.
