Nominally. It's not like it was before prohibition. Think about it. Alcohol is about as legal in America as weed is in Amsterdam. You can only purchase it in places that have a license to sell it. You can only consume it in the privacy of your own home, or an establishment with a license that allows you to drink.brianutatx wrote: What about drinking legally.
The whole industry is heavily regulated, and it's just now starting to get to where it was pre-prohibition with things like regional breweries and distilleries. It'll probably take 100 years (assuming we get that far) for it to recover.
Let's not forget about all the ancillary laws that were passed back then that we still have to live with. Cabaret laws? The 1934 NFA? Shit's nuts man.

This regulation seems necessary, since alcohol is consumed it needs to be carefully regulated to make sure it is safe to drink. It's similar to how food establishments need to acquire licences to sell food, mainly because of health concerns. There Are plenty of places where you can drink alcohol in my city where the establishment doesn't have a license, these places are typically called BYOB restaurants or bars etc. Usually any place that is privately owned it is legal to drink there. The issue comes with alcohol sales rather than consumption. Really the only place it's not legal to drink are public spaces.Pete > You wrote:Nominally. It's not like it was before prohibition. And if you want to make a case for drinking and driving please feel free to look up the relationship between alcohol and impairment it does on ones senses. This ones really a no brainer drinking and operating motor vehicles doesn't make sense.
I think all drugs and alcohol should be legal to consume just about any where as long as it's not directly affecting the safety of those around the individual that is consuming drugs or alcohol ie: driving cars, operating heavy machinery.
For real though the freedom to drink should be one of the last things on your list of things that need to change when it comes to freedom.
I think one of the easiest pro freedom changes that could be made in the USA is FCC laws. We still can't say Fuck, Tits, Piss, etc. legally on the radio, those laws are stuck in the 1950s.

It wasn't an example of something I feel strongly about, just the longest-lasting example of "WE NEED TO REMOVE YOUR RIGHTS TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" type shit I could think of. My point wasn't that we don't have these specific rights, but rather the fact that we almost never any of them back once they're gone, even if the impetus behind why they were removed in the first place no longer existsbrianutatx wrote: For real though the freedom to drink should be one of the last things on your list of things that need to change when it comes to freedom.

pretty weak.

In the Philippines we had quite a similar scenario. Leaders of Abu Sayyaf (SE Azn Islamic separatists linked to Al Qaeda) got killed but some dudes just moved up the ranks. Back to normal. End of story. They're still around taking random people hostage and bombing malls 'cause that's what terrorists do.
Sexless, no sex, just death.
