i found some interview where jon said they we're dead (fucking) serious but they wanted to get shows with their friends bands so they said it was a satire/joke band. also said that their sound was mostly influenced by slowcore and post-rock but they also really liked faster punk.alexander wrote:they (the brothers) are just really into "sadcore" and "slowcore" bands. so it's not meant as a parody, even though it's sort of satirical. that is an amazing song though.

they mostly played with tough guy hardcore bands and for tough guy hardcore crowds. nobody liked them. fifteen people was probably their biggest audience ever. and they probably told them how stupid their macho bullshit ideologies were, LOL. awesome band.lastcity wrote:i found some interview where jon said they we're dead (fucking) serious but they wanted to get shows with their friends bands so they said it was a satire/joke band. also said that their sound was mostly influenced by slowcore and post-rock but they also really liked faster punk.

Story of my band. People watch us from afar because we're "unmoshable."alexander wrote: they mostly played with tough guy hardcore bands and for tough guy hardcore crowds. nobody liked them. fifteen people was probably their biggest audience ever. and they probably told them how stupid their macho bullshit ideologies were, LOL. awesome band.

I honestly don't find I Hate Myself cheesy or lulzy in any other way. I just find them sincere and fragile.

huh? where did you pull that out of?
they played a lot of shows to a lot more than 15 people. and they played a lot of shows with the no idea roster/crowd at the time, none of which were tough guy bands.
Re: I Hate Myself appreesh
Jon. he played the drums.
but ok. maybe they didn't play "mostly" with tough guy bands. I don't know why I wrote that, hah. but they did play with tough guy bands from time to time. and they never had a big audience. fifteen people is an okay estimated max attendance for their headlining shows.
