A lot of good suggestions. I've been listening to stuff like Trapped Under Ice recently, and that works really well, but I get tired of it easily. Will definitely have to try out Like Shadows and see how that works. I

Most commercial gyms play dance music, which I do not understand and probably never will. I find working out with some form of music playing device on me to be uncomfortable, so I just deal with it if that's the case. It was to the point where I just tuned it out completely.

If I had my way, I'd probably work out to nothing but a soundtrack of Ronnie Coleman saying his Ronnie Coleman-speak things.

YEAAAH BUDDAY!
LIGHTWEIGHT, BABY! LIGHTWEIGHT!
AIN'T NUTTIN BUT A PEANUT!
WOOOOOO!
Lucky, my school usually plays whatever generic "alternative" station there is or classic rock radio. Both of which kill any kind of enthusiasm I have to lift.

It's a trade-off. It's a college gym, so it is full of dudebros constantly misinforming each other, and the equipment isn't up to par with a real weightlifting gym. Off the top of my head this is the stuff that I'd like that this gym doesn't have:

a flat back extension apparatus (only has the 45 degree one, which I don't like as much)
adjustable barbell incline bench
a full cage (which really sucks for me because I rearrange it and do my flat benching and partial deadlifting in there)
a shrug or trap bar
a thick bar
a decent barbell shoulder press apparatus

That's every gym I have ever been too. Or it's cop complaining about socialism.

I use to make these screamo/hardcorepunk-cds that i take to the gym (we have a cd-player at the gym with nice speakers), altough no one besides me appreciates that kind of music around here. one i made contained songs from:
the saddest landscape
iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook
beau navire
1994!
die hoffnung
the kodan armada (great workoutshit, getting real angry and stuff when i listen to em boys)
neil perry (also very angry and great hoho!)

i also played an orchid compilation cd once or twice, the one with "chaos is me" and "dance tonight...", but them shitheads didn't get the greatness of that either.
