Alright, I just want to understand this collective called 'the wave'.
Why are (most) of these bands considered bad or lame?
Pianos Become the Teeth and The Saddest Landscape are both very good screamobands to me. I also like Defeater a lot.
Are these bands called like that because they're signed to Topshelf? Or is there a different reason for it?
I'm not taking part in this fancy tumblr internet generation, I just play some vinyls that I consider as good music, so I just don't understand what the big deal is.
What's up with 'the wave'?

Re: What's up with 'the wave'?
The Wave, IIRC, is something a bunch of bands call themselves, probably as a joke. These bands include Defeater, Touche Amore, Make Do & Mend, and Pianos Become the Teeth. Oh, and La Dispute, too. I might be forgetting something but I dunno.
Defeater and Peeanus Becumz teh Teef are considered the better bands of the lot, I think. The Saddest Landscape isn't part of the Wave, they've been around longer than that and are also cooler and make quality shit. Being signed to Topshelf isn't really part of the criteria to being part of the Wave, but really Topshelf isn't that cool anyway (Empire Empire, TSL, and We Were Skeletons is really the only listenable shit on there, imho).
Most people here hate the wave because of the annoying as fuck fans and because it is false skramu or some such. Personally, I hate the fans and think the music is mediocre at best. Defeater is cool, though.
If you search through some of the old threads there's a press release somewhere in which the bands describe themselves as the wave. It's lulzy as fuck and comes off as incredibly artificial and cheesy in all the worst ways.

The Saddest Landscape were Toru Okada-bad before they became associated with "the wave". Now they're okay, but still not good.
