Try a sovtek mig 50, Ampeg V4, or fender bassman if you want a cleaner yet bass heavy tone. All 3 of those are similar but have subtle differences. I own an Ampeg V4 and like it over a bassman or Mig 50, all of these amps run between $400-$500 US dollars.
If you want a head with more crunch try out a Sovtek Mig 100

I know this is old but ... the ampeg V4 is sick, i use it for my band currently. Other amps we use are an old acoustic 470, and a sliverface fender bassman 135 which is being used by our new bass player. The most recent addition is a bugera 1960 which the other guitar player got on CL for $200.brianutatx wrote:Try a sovtek mig 50, Ampeg V4, or fender bassman if you want a cleaner yet bass heavy tone. Can't go wrong with a fulltone OCD for overdrive... But other than that... What effects do you want?dakota fanning wrote:i was thinking about buying some new pedals for my guitar and i've been curious about what kind of guitargear trei from IWHACIYY and beau navire were/is using in the respective bands. anyone have any clue?

i watched a video of the fulltone OCD on youtube after you mentioned it and it seems to make a close resemblence to what im looking for. the thing about treis guitarplay/effect is that i find it distorted, but at the same time not. i guess you'll have to tweak the distortion to get the right balance between clean and dist, no?Romulus wrote:Can't go wrong with a fulltone OCD for overdrive... It's overdrive and can also act as a clean boost (almost), so it will push your tubes into a natural break up rather well without being over the top. The OCD also allows a lot of your guitars dynamics to still be audible. The low/high peak switch aso helps you shape the overall charachter of the drive it produces. It's really worth the price tag if you have to have a stomp box overdrive. It is what I used when I was playing through an ampeg v4.dakota fanning wrote:i watched a video of the fulltone OCD on youtube after you mentioned it and it seems to make a close resemblence to what im looking for. the thing about treis guitarplay/effect is that i find it distorted, but at the same time not. i guess you'll have to tweak the distortion to get the right balance between clean and dist, no?Romulus wrote:Can't go wrong with a fulltone OCD for overdrive... EDIT- I should add that this also depends on the amp you run. Loud clean amps are commonly used for this kind of thing, although that's just what I gather from my experience... Others can feel free to add to this or correct me.

Re: guitar nerds, give me some advice
i have another question regarding the OCD. i have a jazzmaster plugged to a boss me-50 with a distortion i've made up. but i've lowered the volume on the 'drive' and tunred up the 'tone', so it doesn't screech or make other typical distorted rock'n'roll-noises (that is, if i turned up the drive it would sound like the ramones or something else that has that typical ruffy sound). the distortion i've made is more like an alternative to my usual clean tone really, only sharper. but now, if i was to plug in an OCD with with my modified distortion on, would it make the distortion-channel to bring fort them fuzzy noises that i've buried with the 'drive-wheel' or would it just enhance the volume and give it some more edge?
(basically, i've turned down the fuzzyness the distortion normaly would produce, so if i would plug in the OCD, would it bring the fuzzy back and ruin the sound i've made?)
