Re: What is your screamo origin story?
I went to some music blog to download Antioch Arrow. I downloaded a link thinking it was their discography. It ended up being Jerome's Dream.

My ex back in 2003 showed me CTTS and Saetia. I got more into Jeromes dream and Tunes For Bears through VLV, and other internet recommendations.

Re: What is your screamo origin story?
Had Saetia and CTTS in my iTunes since like 8th grade... stumbled upon Loma Prieta via last.fm my junior year of high school... picked up a new artist here or there for a couple years... went headfirst into it all my freshman year of college... now nothing else does it for me.
Also I was into vinyl long before I got into screamo so it was awesome finding a genre of music I loved with an emphasis on the format.

There's another music board I go to and saw Orchid get name dropped by one of the better posters. I shortly after downloaded a torrent filled with Orchid and a bunch of other skramz bands. That was a year ago.

Listened to Thursday, Alexisonfire, and some other bands that are somewhat related to skramz early on in high school. Eventually learned what real screamo is and discovered Saetia. Mind blown.

Re: What is your screamo origin story?
Okay well, I was listening to some metalcore and pop punk in 5th becuase that's what my friends liked. I never really got into the metalcore becuase most of the stuff I grew up with was pop punk with some post-punkish indie stuff, and some ska punk. Early Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday, Ice Nine Kills, Eyes Set To Kill, and Panic at The Disco were about the only bands that I listened to and enjoyed. I don't know why I never got into any more of it. i guess it's becuase I never went to shows. but now I try to go to at least one show a month and I guess that's why I like emo so much more.
In January of my 6th grade year I was being called emo and shit so I looked it up. Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, and Indian Summer were some of the first bands I listened to thanks to last.fm and fourfa. I looked at someones last.fm and found Love Like... Electrocution , Loma Prieta, Jeromes Dream, and 1905. Also I saw my friends band. I really liked the stage presence and the style they were playing so I found some more bands from him. He showed me Orchid and stuff. So I was into a lot of the bigger bands at this time.
7th grade year was when I really got into it. I started finding more bands and trying to get in more touch with the scene and the history. At the end of that school year I saw Sohns with Barkus, Sly. It was my first emo show and I loved it. So many nice dudes and all. I talked to this one dude about Jeromes Dream and Me and Him Call it Us for about 20 min. But that summer I started getting into Folk/Ska Punk, all styles of Indie, and Math/Post-rock so I had a small falling out with emo until something with this girl happened and I went though a huge I Hate Myself/Toru Okada phase.
and ever since then I've been trying to play a part in the scene as much as I could by going to shows, booking bands. etc.
and uhh... sorry for having such a long explanation.

Re: What is your screamo origin story?
when i was 17 (1996) i started playing in a band with some friends. we liked a lot of different music. we all agreed on bands like converge, puritan, frail, elements of need, reversal of man, endeavor, indian summer and a few others. we started writing songs and didn't really follow any formula. two years later we broke up after releasing some music and touring.
in 2000, someone came up to me and told me that i had been in a "screamo" band. i wasn't sure what this meant, since at the time we just thought of ourselves as a hardcore band. i suppose this was my introduction...someone telling me what kind of genre my old band fell into.

Well when I was just a wee fetus I remember me mum blasting Venus And Bacchus at her stomach for 9 months straight. Well since then its been all skramz all the time.
